Tree Surgery Structural Support - Cavity Care - Girdling Roots
Structural Support and Tree Cabling Kittatinny Tree Service takes pride in tree surgery and preservation. Many of our customers were pleased to learn that tree removal is not their only option! Below are two examples of how tree cabling can add structural support to weak "crotches". Trees add value to property; installing a cable high in the canopy is much less expensive than a complete removal!
Cavity Care In the past, cavities in trees were addressed by filling the void with concrete or with brickwork. Research has demonstrated that a dry environment, in addition to any needed structural support is a healthier alternative to a concrete fill. The example below is of a Red Maple which developed a cavity in it's trunk. It was retaining nine inches of water to the level of the hole. It also served as the home of a large Black Snake and a multitude of cave crickets.
Upon removal of the nasty, evil serpent, he was released into a field nearby.
A drain was installed into the cavity to encourage a dry environment, and heavy-gauge steel was conformed to the opening, sealing the cave crickets in their sarcophagus.
Girdling Roots Kittatinny Tree Service can diagnose current and potential hazards to your trees beneath the soil. Although we cannot see through solid objects, we can recognize the signs and symptoms which can indicate girdling roots. The trees below were at two separate properties. In all cases, removal of the girdling roots resulted in remarkable foliage in the following season!

The pictures below are of several trees on another property. Ten years of excessive mulching encouraged root growth encircling the trunks. Only after excavation of over 18" of mulch were the girdling roots revealed and removed. |
A cable would have prevented this!
